The goal of Texas HORSE is to preserve the $5.2 billion Texas horse industry. Our industry is losing horses, jobs, and money to neighboring states because their governments have provided better opportunities to Texas horsemen than are available at home in Texas. These opportunities exist only because surrounding states offer expanded gaming programs at their racetracks, which provide funds for increased purses and equine industry stimulation programs.

Texas HORSE is asking the Texas legislature for a chance to compete on a fair and even field of play with our competitor states.

Revenue generated by these gaming machines will be used to enhance the Texas equine industry by making purses and incentives more competitive with those of other states, dedicating funds to improve racetrack facilities to specifically better the live racing experience, and creating benevolence programs for backstretch workers, owners, breeders, and jockeys. These funds will also be used to supplement equine research and equine adoption programs.

Non-race breeds will also receive funding from gaming revenue. Dedicated portions of the funds generated will go to the AQHA, NCHA, and APHA for use in Texas-based programs and services, while another significant portion will go to grants provided to eligible organizations or entities for existing equine activities in Texas.

Texas HORSE is a non-profit association formed under the provisions of Chapter 252 of the Texas Business Organizations Code. The Texas HORSE board of directors consists of one representative from each of the founding organizations and one director at large.
